A New Way of Thinking

Something occurred to me this morning at church.  We sang several songs about the Cross, including "At the Foot of the Cross (Beauty for Ashes)". I leaned over to my husband and told him that I was just sharing that same song with another person this morning. I love when God does that!

The point is this: these songs usually leave me weeping, overcome by God's great love for me.  I sat there, focusing on God and the songs, and waited.  But the tears didn't come. Instead, I was just reassured (without the tears) that God is for me and always has been.

And then, the last song began.  And it is a song that I have heard many times before. It has always made me think about heaven and how one day in heaven will far outweigh all the days we spend on this earth.  And it has NEVER made me cry.

Until today.

God spoke to me very clearly through that song this morning.

The chorus says this:

Better is one day in your courts
Better is one day in your house
Better is one day in your courts
Than THOUSANDS elsewhere

The more I surrendered my heart in worship this morning, the more the tears flowed freely.  For the first time ever, I thought about this song in earthly terms.  It was an arrow shot straight into my heart, and I heard God speaking loud and clear.

If you calculate the number of days I spent "elsewhere" over the last decade (which I did after the song ended), it totals up to at least 2,555 days.  In the seven (and a half years really), I spent thousands of days outside of God's presence.  I wasn't in His courts. I wasn't in His house. I spent thousands of days elsewhere.

My heart was broken and humbled this morning as I contemplated this.  And I was able to silently affirm that ONE day in God's presence has been so much better than the thousands I spent elsewhere.

This was such an amazing revelation to me and it leaves me yet again feeling more grateful than I could ever put into words!

Thank you God for rescuing my heart!

Better is one day in Your courts than thousands elsewhere!
